I have finally decided on a college major and educational direction. My former law school motivation has slipped from me and replaced with the desire to study history, world history to be more specific. I came to my decision about six months ago at the book store. I was well aware of my over all goals. They were to learn how to read, communicate, write and think in the most critical way possible. Law school would have provided this, I have no doubt. But as I visited the Bookstore and looked at the reading material and I felt weighed down by the law material. It is so dry, straight forward, narrow. The arguments are mathematical. The logical approaches seemed to leave the human soul, culture and emotion out.
On the other hand, the history section was glorious. It told stores of places, people, times that seemed so relevant to today. I thought to myself, what do i want to spend the next 5 to 10 years studying and reading? Why study to law when I can take over the world?
Of course making a decision is relieving itself. I then signed up for my major and i plan to register next month. All my basic classes, minus college algebra, are out of the way. I will tackle math again later. No hurry there.
I couldn’t be happier.
